Summer Tours

From the middle of November to the end of April, the horses allow you to explore otherwise inaccessible parts of the mountains. Each season offers its own unique and varied landscape which is to be enjoyed at whichever time you visit.
For our longer tours, you spend your first night in a cabin. The following morning we pack the saddlebags, ready to go. The packhorses carry the equipment for camping as well as food for your journey. We supply you with chaps and ponchos to wear during your horseback riding adventure.
For tours that are half a day or longer, meals are provided. We would suggest some horse riding experience if you wish to participate in horse treks longer than our half day option.
The gaits of the horses vary throughout the trip, depending on the surface of the ground and the riders´ ability. We cover varied countryside where vast plateaus offer the opportunity to gallop while climbing and descending steep mountain slopes demonstrate the horses´ ability to traverse such country.
For guests with more experience, fallen trees offer a chance to practice jumping and occasionally we´re asked to assist the local shepherds round up and hold their animals. Bareback riding and lassoing are also activities which might be practiced during your adventure.
We visit waterfalls and lakes as well as cross flowing rivers and high, mountainous marshlands which are the beginnings of the regions many lakes, streams and rivers.
If you participate in our longer tours, you will experience true wild camping, or might be lucky enough to be invited by local shepherds to camp on their land. We prepare typical meat on the fire and enjoy local Argentinean wine. If you want to experience a truly Argentinean custom, you are invited to share maté together around the fire as you relax at the end of the day.
*H&H reserve the right to amend tours at their discretion based on weather conditions which are potentially volatile in the Patagonian region. In this case, we do our utmost to provide a similar or improved program for your booked tour.

Horses and saddles:

At H&H we live together with crellos and other mixed horse breeds that are very strong and sturdy and are used by the Gaucos. These horses were brought over during the Spanish settlement and were left behind and used by the Gaucos for their farm work. These hardy animals are able to survive in harsh climates as well as on relatively infertile soil and tough grasses while still maintaining a gentle temperament.
